With ublock or similar you can just have one Firefox and one Firefox Beta, one with and one without extension. ublock even works to take out the ads from Youtube (which might be crucial as the alternatives all have disadvantages: NewPipe can't log you in, Vanced isn't working 75% of the time and Revanced is kind of complex to set up, keep up, and in all probably one wouldn't feel comfortable to log in with the "real" google account anyway).Īdditionally DNS it'll block the ads for the whole phone, which might or might not be better behaviour (as in apps or games that are pretty heavy on ads thinking they have no internet, apps that are actually tied to marketing campaigns - like for coupons, fidelity cards, etc.).Īnd it creates big headaches with random WiFi networks, it can stumble in captive portals, plus for some reason admins feel the need to block the use of external DNS even in very small private setups, plus DoT needs separated port which isn't whitelisted in most default Guest networks I've seen.Īnd to make it worse it takes quite a bit to flip it (well, it takes more to realize you need to) but also you need to dig a bit to reach it. That's a half-baked solution as it blocks only the ads that come from a different (and known) domain - an extension can see inside the page, not only from which host the crap is coming.
